How we test Brokers ?
Trust and Safety
OANDA Corporation is registered as a Futures Commission Merchant and Retail Foreign Exchange Dealer with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and is a member of the National Futures Association. Its NFA number is 0325821, and its U.S. office is at 17 State Street, Suite 300, New York, NY 10004-1501.
OANDA operates through regulated entities across eight markets. These include the United States under CFTC and NFA oversight, the United Kingdom under FCA oversight, Poland under KNF oversight, Singapore under MAS oversight, Canada under CIRO oversight, Australia under ASIC oversight, Japan under FSA oversight, and the British Virgin Islands under FSC oversight.
Client funds are segregated in most jurisdictions. In the United Kingdom, Europe, Singapore, and several other regions, client money is kept separate from company operating funds. Negative balance protection applies to retail clients in some regions, especially under European rules, but it does not apply to every client type. Professional clients may lose this protection.
Fees and Commissions
Spreads
OANDA uses floating spreads. The average spread is 0.9 pips on EUR/USD, 1.6 pips on GBP/USD, 0.38 points on XAU/USD, and 0.7 points on the S&P 500 CFD. Spreads change with liquidity, session time, and market volatility.
Spread-Only Pricing
On spread-only pricing, the trading cost is built into the spread. This is easier for beginners because there is no separate forex commission on each trade. OANDA Global Markets lists example spread-only pricing from 1.0 pips on EUR/USD, 1.2 pips on GBP/USD, and 1.1 pips on AUD/USD.
Core Pricing Plus Commission
Core pricing gives lower spreads and adds a fixed commission. OANDA charges $5 per $100,000 traded per side on a USD account. A full open-and-close trade costs $10 per $100,000 traded, before spread cost. The minimum commission is $0.01 per trade.
Inactivity Fee
OANDA charges an inactivity fee after 12 months without trading activity. The inactivity fee is $10 per month or the account currency equivalent. The fee stops when trading resumes or the account balance reaches zero.
Overnight Swap and Financing Fees
Overnight financing applies when leveraged positions stay open past the daily cutoff, commonly 5 p.m. ET. Forex financing can be a credit or a charge based on interest-rate differences. CFD financing can include an administration charge above the relevant benchmark rate. Financing is important for swing traders because a position held for several days can cost more than the spread.
Currency Conversion Fee
OANDA charges a currency conversion fee when profit, loss, charges, or adjustments are in a currency that is different from the account base currency. The standard conversion mark-up is 1.0% on the midpoint price in some regions. Certain European setups use 0.5%.
Deposit Fee
OANDA does not charge a deposit fee on its main supported funding methods. Banks, card issuers, and intermediary banks can still charge their own fees.
Withdrawal Fee
OANDA Corporation in the United States does not charge withdrawal fees. Other regional entities can charge for extra withdrawals after the first free monthly withdrawal, especially on bank-transfer withdrawals. Some regional fee schedules show extra withdrawal costs from $15 to $35, depending on method and entity.

Account Opening and Fees
Verification Process
OANDA requires Know Your Customer verification for live trading accounts. A personal account application asks for name, address, date of birth, employment details, financial information, trading experience, and other required details. U.S. applicants also provide a Social Security Number. If electronic identity checks are not enough, OANDA asks for proof of identity and proof of address, such as a government-issued photo ID and a recent bank statement or utility bill.
Standard Account
The Standard account is the main account type for most retail traders. OANDA has no minimum deposit for a standard live account, so a trader can open the account with $0 and fund it later. Funds are still required before placing a live trade. The account offers floating spreads, a minimum lot size of 0.01, and base currencies such as USD, EUR, HKD, and SGD, depending on the entity.
Elite Trader and Premium Accounts
OANDA offers high-volume account programs for active traders. In the United States, the Elite Trader program starts at $10 million to $50 million monthly trading volume for Tier 1. Rebates start at $5 per million traded and rise to $17 per million traded at Tier 5. Elite Extra can raise the rebate to $20 per million traded, and it requires a $50,000 deposit or a $50,000 balance to activate.
OANDA Global Markets has Standard, Premium, and Premium Plus accounts. The Premium account requires a $10,000 deposit or $10 million notional trading volume per month, plus more than $30 million notional volume per calendar quarter. Premium Plus requires $50 million notional volume per month and more than $200 million notional volume per calendar quarter.
Professional Account
Professional accounts are available in selected regions. In the United Kingdom, a trader must meet at least two of the three tests: at least 10 relevant trades in each quarter over the past four quarters with a notional value of at least £50,000 per trade, an investment portfolio above £500,000, or at least one year of financial-sector work experience in a role connected to FX or CFD trading. Professional clients can access higher leverage, but they lose some retail protections, including negative balance protection.
Spread Betting Account
Spread betting is available to eligible clients in the United Kingdom and Ireland. OANDA offers spread betting on more than 100 instruments, including forex, indices, commodities, metals, and bonds. Example spreads include UK 100 from 1 point, Germany 40 from 1.2 points, EUR/USD from 0.6 pips, and EUR/GBP from 0.9 pips. Spread betting is not available through MT5.
Corporate Account
OANDA also supports corporate accounts. The application requires company details, beneficial ownership information, and corporate documents. This account type suits businesses and entities rather than individual retail traders.
Customer Support

OANDA offers 24/5 customer support during market hours through live chat, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, SMS, email, and phone. The exact contact options depend on the trader’s region and OANDA entity.
In the United States, OANDA offers support from Sunday at 4 p.m. ET to Friday at 6 p.m. ET. The main U.S. phone number is +1 212 858 7690, and the support email is [email protected].
OANDA’s live chat support also provides practical account and safety-related information. For example, when asked what would happen if the company became insolvent, OANDA’s support representative stated that client funds are held in segregated accounts at top-tier banks. According to the response, OANDA does not have the authority to use client funds for operational purposes, and those funds remain protected and separate from OANDA’s own corporate capital, even in the event of insolvency.

The broker's research content includes fundamental analysis, technical analysis, market commentary, and updates on economic data releases. MarketPulse and the Trade Tap blog are useful for traders who want regular market context before planning entries and exits.

Bonuses and Promotions
Deposit Bonus
OANDA Global Markets offers a customer bonus of 50% of the initial deposit. The minimum deposit is $25, and the maximum bonus is $5,000. The same promotion also supports equivalent EUR, HKD, and SGD deposits. The bonus is tied to trading bonus credits and has qualification terms.

No-Deposit Bonus
OANDA does not offer a standard no-deposit bonus for normal retail forex trading. Its active promotions focus on deposit bonuses, welcome bonuses, rebates, TradingView offers, and high-volume trader rewards.
Affiliate Program
OANDA has an affiliate program for website owners, publishers, digital marketers, bloggers, social media influencers, and educators. Commissions are up to $600 for each qualified referred client. OANDA partner documentation for some regions offers affiliate CPA payouts up to $1,100, depending on the introduced client's geography and qualification terms.
Introducing Broker Program
The Introducing Broker program pays rebates based on referred-client trading volume. OANDA Global Markets offers rebates as high as $5 per lot on forex and $18 per 100 ounces traded on gold. This program is designed for educators, academies, publishers, and people with trading networks.
Loyalty Program
OANDA's Elite Trader program rewards high-volume U.S. traders with rebates from $5 to $17 per million traded. Elite Extra can increase rebates to $20 per million traded. The first tier starts at $10 million to $50 million monthly volume, and the highest tier starts at $1 billion monthly volume.
Trading Contests and Prop Trader Promotions
Traditional retail trading contests are not a core feature of OANDA's standard forex account. OANDA Prop Trader has used challenge-based promotions, discounts, and giveaways. Prop Trader rules differ from normal live brokerage accounts, especially around news trading and restricted practices.
Final Verdict
OANDA is a suitable broker for traders who want strong regulation, clear account choices, low account-entry barriers, and several platform options. It is especially practical for U.S. forex traders because OANDA Corporation is regulated by the CFTC and NFA, has no minimum deposit, offers ACH funding, supports MT4 and TradingView, and gives access to API trading.
The broker is less suitable for traders who want a built-in social-copy platform, very high leverage under a U.S. account, or broad CFD access from the United States. International traders get a wider product list, but fees, leverage, platform access, and investor protections depend on the legal entity. Beginners should start with the demo account, then use small position sizes because leverage can increase both profits and losses.
