Trading forex and CFDs carries a high level of risk!

Overview

Moneta Markets has been operating since 2019, with more than 1,000 forex and CFD instruments across several trading platforms. The choice of software is one of the broker's more practical strengths. MT4 and MT5 cover the familiar MetaTrader experience, PRO Trader brings TradingView-based charting to the browser, AppTrader handles mobile trading, and CopyTrader is built around strategy copying. Direct STP and Prime ECN both start at $50, so opening a standard live account does not require a large balance. Ultra ECN is a different proposition, with a $20,000 minimum aimed at higher-volume traders.

Pros

  • Raw spread ECN pricing available
  • Wide choice of trading platforms and tools
  • 1,000+ CFD instruments
  • No inactivity fee
  • Research tools for technical, sentiment, and macro analysis

Cons

  • Ultra ECN requires $20,000
  • Bank withdrawals can involve external charges
  • Some premium tools require at least $500 in account funding
  • Country and entity restrictions affect availability

How we test Brokers ?

Trust and Safety

4.4/5

Moneta Markets does not operate under one license worldwide. The legal entity behind an account depends on the trader's location, and that affects regulation, leverage, product access, and certain protections. The entity shown during registration therefore matters just as much as the Moneta Markets brand name.

Entity Jurisdiction Regulator or Registration Number
Moneta Markets South Africa (Pty) Ltd South Africa FSCA FSP 47490
Moneta Markets Capital Ltd United Kingdom FCA FRN 613381, company 08279988
Moneta Markets Trading Limited Mauritius FSC GB24203391, company 211285 GBC
Moneta Markets Ltd Saint Lucia International Business Company registration 2023-00068

The global Moneta Markets Ltd website is separate from the FCA-regulated UK entity and is not directed at UK residents.

Client money is kept in segregated accounts rather than mixed with the broker's operating funds. This is a standard but important protection. Moneta Markets also states that client funds are held with an AA-rated global bank.

Negative balance protection limits another common CFD risk. If an extreme move pushes the account below zero, the protection is designed to prevent that negative balance from becoming money owed to the broker.

Moneta Markets advertises client account protection of up to $1,000,000 through Lloyd's insurance, subject to policy terms and the relevant legal entity.

Opening a live account involves standard Know Your Customer and anti-money-laundering checks. Traders need to verify their identity, may be asked for proof of residence, and can add two-factor authentication to the Client Portal.

Fees and Commissions

3.35/5

Spreads

Trading costs are easiest to understand by separating the accounts into two pricing styles. Direct STP builds the cost into the spread and charges no separate forex commission, with spreads starting from 1.2 pips. Prime ECN and Ultra ECN use raw spreads from 0.0 pips, then add commission. That makes the ECN accounts easier to compare by total round-turn cost rather than by the advertised spread alone.

Instrument ECN Average Spread STP Average Spread
EURUSD 0.26 pips 1.36 pips
GBPUSD 0.56 pips 1.76 pips
Gold, XAUUSD 1.55 points 2.65 points
S&P 500, SP500 2.99 points 2.99 points

The minimum spread is a best-case figure rather than a fixed trading cost. During news releases, market openings, or thin liquidity, the live spread can be wider, so the average figures below are more useful than the headline minimum when comparing accounts.

Commission

Commission depends on the account type. Direct STP does not charge a separate forex commission because trading costs are built into the spread. Prime ECN charges $3 per lot per side, which equals $6 for a complete round-turn. Ultra ECN lowers this to $1 per lot per side, or $2 round-turn. For active traders, the ECN accounts can be more cost-efficient when their tighter raw spreads offset the added commission.

Overnight Swap Fees

Keeping a position open overnight can create a swap debit or credit. The amount changes with the instrument, trade direction, position size, and prevailing rate, while triple rollover applies on designated settlement days.

Inactivity Fee

No inactivity charge applies.

Deposit Fee

Moneta Markets does not charge an internal deposit fee on standard funding methods, although banks and payment providers can apply their own charges.

Withdrawal Fee

Moneta Markets generally does not add its own withdrawal charge. Bank transfers are the main exception to watch in practice because intermediary or receiving banks can deduct their own fees, which can reduce the amount that finally reaches the account.

Currency Conversion Fee

A conversion charge can arise when money moves between a funding currency and a different account base currency. Traders can open accounts in AUD, USD, GBP, EUR, SGD, CAD, NZD, JPY, HKD, or BRL.

Deposits and Withdrawals

4.35/5

Deposit Methods

The funding menu covers the main methods most retail traders expect: cards, bank transfers, digital wallets, and cryptocurrencies. Visa, Mastercard, wire transfer, Union Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Bitcoin, Ethereum, FasaPay, JCB, Sticpay, and Tether are listed, although not every method appears in every country.

Withdrawal Methods

The withdrawal list is slightly different from the deposit list. Wire transfer, Visa, Mastercard, Skrill, Union Pay, Binance, FasaPay, JCB, Sticpay, Bitcoin, Tether, and Neteller are listed. Payment choice is not always completely flexible because anti-money-laundering rules can require funds to return through the original deposit method.

Deposit Processing Time

Deposit speed depends on the payment method. Card payments and many e-wallets are usually credited instantly, while cryptocurrency deposits can take around 1 hour. Bank wire transfers are slower and generally take 2 to 5 business days. Actual timing can also depend on the payment provider, bank, and account verification status.

Withdrawal Processing Time

Withdrawal speed varies by payment method. E-wallet and cryptocurrency withdrawals are generally completed within 24 hours, while local bank transfers usually take 1 to 2 business days. Card withdrawals can take 3 to 5 business days, and bank wire transfers may require 3 to 7 business days. Moneta Markets generally processes withdrawal requests within 24 hours, but the final arrival time depends on the bank or payment provider.

Tradable Instruments

3.9/5

Forex Pairs

The forex range has 44 pairs, covering the majors, minors, and a selection of crosses without becoming unnecessarily crowded. Eligible forex and gold trades on Direct STP and Prime ECN can use leverage up to 1:1000. At that level, a small price move has a much larger effect on margin, so position size matters more than the headline leverage itself.

Stocks

The share CFD range stands out for its size, with more than 700 instruments. Traders can go long or short, but leverage is much lower than on forex. Some 24/7 US stock CFDs, for example, use 1:5 leverage.

Indices

The 16 index CFDs cover major global equity benchmarks. They are useful for traders who prefer taking a view on an entire market rather than choosing individual shares, although margin requirements differ from one index to another.

Commodities

The commodity range is reasonably varied rather than being limited to gold and oil. Its 19 CFDs span metals, energy, and soft commodities, with markets such as silver, natural gas, copper, coffee, cocoa, cotton, orange juice, and sugar alongside the more heavily traded contracts.

Cryptocurrencies

Crypto CFD trading covers assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin. These markets can move sharply, making position size and stop placement especially important.

ETFs

More than 50 ETF CFDs make it possible to trade a sector or investment theme without choosing individual companies. They add useful breadth to the share offering, although positions kept open overnight can attract financing charges.

Bonds

Seven bond CFDs add a less common market to the lineup. They are most relevant to traders who follow government debt, central bank policy, and interest rate expectations rather than focusing only on currencies and equities.

Leverage Restrictions

Direct STP and Prime ECN can reach 1:1000 on eligible forex and gold products. Other CFDs use lower or fixed leverage, while the Ultra ECN account offers leverage up to 1:500.

Trading Platforms and Tools

5/5

MetaTrader 4

MT4 is the straightforward choice for traders already comfortable with the classic retail forex setup. Expert Advisors, custom indicators, multiple timeframes, and one-click trading are all there, so existing MT4 users can move across without having to learn a new workflow.

MetaTrader 5

MT5 makes more sense when deeper charting and a broader order set matter. It expands the toolkit to 21 timeframes, more than 30 built-in indicators, an integrated economic calendar, and the MQL5 environment for automated strategies.

PRO Trader 2.0

PRO Trader 2.0 is the natural alternative for traders who prefer TradingView-style charting to MetaTrader. Because it runs in the browser, there is no desktop installation to manage. More than 100 indicators, 12 chart types, over 20 layouts, drawing tools, and direct stop-loss and take-profit controls give it enough depth for regular technical analysis.

AppTrader

AppTrader is more than a mobile order ticket. Prices, charts, watchlists, open trades, news, signals, funding, and account management sit in the same iOS and Android app, which makes it practical for monitoring an account away from a desktop.

CopyTrader

CopyTrader takes a different approach from the broker's charting platforms. Instead of building every trade from scratch, users can review more than 6,000 signal providers and copy selected strategies automatically. Performance statistics help with comparison, and at least $100 or equivalent is needed to start copying a provider.

Automated Trading

Algorithmic traders can run Expert Advisors on both MT4 and MT5. Scalping and hedging are allowed, but strategies that rely on off-market arbitrage or technical pricing errors fall outside the permitted trading rules.

VPS Hosting

Free VPS reimbursement requires an account balance of at least $500 and at least 5 FX lots, or equivalent volume, per calendar month.

Account Opening and Fees

4.2/5

Direct STP Account

The Direct STP account is the simplest option for traders who prefer spread-only pricing. It requires a $50 minimum deposit and does not charge a separate forex commission. Spreads start from 1.2 pips and leverage on eligible forex and gold instruments reaches 1:1000.

Prime ECN Account

The Prime ECN account is better suited to active forex traders, scalpers, and Expert Advisor users who prefer raw pricing. The minimum deposit is $50, with spreads starting from 0.0 pips. Forex commission is $3 per lot per side, equal to $6 for a complete round turn. Eligible forex and gold products can use leverage up to 1:1000.

Ultra ECN Account

The Ultra ECN account is designed for larger balances and higher trading volumes. It requires a $20,000 minimum deposit but reduces forex commission to $1 per lot per side, or $2 round-turn. Spreads start from 0.0 pips and the account is available with leverage up to 1:500.

Demo and Islamic Accounts

Moneta Markets provides both demo and Islamic account options. The demo account uses virtual funds, making it useful for learning the platform, practising order entry, and testing strategies or Expert Advisors without risking real money. Swap-free Islamic versions are available for Direct STP, Prime ECN, and Ultra ECN accounts. These accounts do not use standard overnight swap interest, although a daily administration charge can apply instead.

How to Open an Account

  1. Create a profile with personal contact details.
  2. Select the platform, account type, and base currency.
  3. Complete the suitability and account information.
  4. Submit the required KYC identity documents and proof of residence if requested.
  5. Fund the account with an available payment method.
  6. Open the platform and connect the live account.

Customer Support

3.79/5

Customer support is available by live chat, email, and phone. The Help Center states 24/7 availability, and the contact page lists multilingual assistance at +44 (113) 3204819 and [email protected].

Tested response times were strongest on live chat, at about 1 minute. Phone support took around 1 to 3 minutes, while email replies arrived in roughly 3 to 6 hours. The broad language coverage is another positive point, with English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Czech, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Malaysian, and Arabic listed.

Market Research

4.5/5

The research package has more depth than a basic broker news feed. Technical setups, sentiment, trade ideas, and macroeconomic events are separated into tools with different purposes, which makes the section easier to use for actual trade preparation rather than casual market reading.

Market Buzz works best as a first filter. It scans more than 35,000 assets and brings news flow, social activity, media attention, and large price moves into one visual view, helping traders narrow a large market down to the areas attracting the most attention.

Technical Views focuses more closely on chart analysis. It covers 8,000 instruments and combines pattern recognition, analyst commentary, key levels, profit targets, and reversal zones. Access requires a live account funded with at least $500.

Featured Ideas turns technical and fundamental themes into trade setups that can be filtered by currency pair, trading style, timeframe, indicators, and candlestick patterns.

The economic calendar tracks real-time macroeconomic releases from more than 30 countries. Filters for country and expected impact make it easier to focus on events that may affect open positions.

Forex signals, sentiment readings, daily market updates, and additional MT4 and MT5 indicators round out the research tools and give traders several ways to prepare for short-term and swing trading opportunities.

Learn

3.5/5

The education material has a clear progression for newer traders. Articles, tutorials, videos, and a glossary cover the basics, while Market Masters moves into more detailed subjects through more than 100 video lessons. Topics include chart patterns, candlesticks, Fibonacci techniques, stocks, trends, market timing, and advanced strategies. Full course access requires at least $500 in a live account.

Bonuses and Promotions

4.5/5

The promotion section needs more attention than the headline percentages suggest. Eligibility changes by country, account type, and deposit size, and bonus credit is not the same as withdrawable cash. Credit can support margin, while cashback only becomes withdrawable after the required trading activity is completed.

Deposit Bonus

The credit bonus gives 50% on the first $1,000 of the initial deposit and 20% on eligible amounts above $1,000, including qualifying redeposits. Total bonus credit is capped at $10,000 and is not directly withdrawable.

Total Eligible Deposits Bonus Credit
$100 $50
$1,000 $500
$2,000 $700
$5,000 $1,300
$20,000 $4,300
$48,500 $10,000 cap

Welcome Bonus

For eligible new clients, the deposit credit above acts as the welcome offer. It must be activated through the Client Portal on an eligible funded account.

50% Cashback Bonus

The 50% Cashback Bonus is aimed at eligible clients who deposit at least $500. A bonus credit equal to 50% of the qualifying deposit is added to the account, but it only becomes withdrawable cash after the required trading volume is completed. Direct STP accounts earn $2 per eligible forex, gold, or oil lot, while Prime ECN accounts earn $0.50 per eligible lot. Ultra ECN and Cent accounts do not qualify for this cashback promotion.

Affiliate Program

The affiliate structure is broader than a single CPA plan. Partners can choose CPA, Introducing Broker, Hybrid, or profit-and-loss share arrangements. Headline rates reach $800 CPA, $8 per FX lot for the standard IB model, $480 CPA plus $6 per FX lot for Hybrid partners, and 50% under the profit-and-loss share model. These headline rates are not guaranteed, since final earnings depend on the agreement, qualified clients, and country tier.

Trading Contests

A standard free demo trading contest is not listed as a core retail promotion. Moneta Funded is a separate proprietary trading service with paid evaluation programs.

Final Verdict

Moneta Markets is strongest when platform choice and account flexibility matter. Direct STP keeps pricing simple for traders who do not want a separate forex commission, while Prime ECN is the more convincing option for active forex trading, scalping, and Expert Advisors because it combines raw spreads with a much lower entry point than Ultra ECN. The $20,000 Ultra ECN minimum puts that account in a different category and makes it relevant mainly to traders with larger balances and heavier volume.

The tradeoffs are equally clear. Leverage can be very high on eligible products, some tools require at least $500 in funding, promotions come with detailed conditions, and account availability changes by jurisdiction. For a trader who wants MetaTrader, TradingView-based web trading, copy trading, and a broad CFD list under one broker, the package is competitive. Traders who need low leverage by default or who dislike promotion rules will have more to weigh before opening an account.
